Ceremony takes place in Liverpool to remember the 96

  • Ceremony takes place in Liverpool, UK on Wednesday (27th April) to commemorate Hillsborough victims.

    A day after the truth was finally revealed., Liverpool came to together to commemorate the 96. 30, 000 people there to remember innocent football fans who attended that fateful match in 1989 and never came home.

    Each of them honoured by name as Britain reflected on both its response to the tragedy and the many years it has taken for the truth to come out.

    The event followed the conclusion of the inquests into the deaths of the victims, which has determined that the fans were unlawfully killed.

    Banners reading "Truth" and "Justice" were hung from the columns of St. George's Hall in central Liverpool, just above 96 lanterns to mark each life lost.

    The chief constable of South Yorkshire Police has been suspended in the wake of the inquests' findings, and criminal proceedings will now likely follow.

    But for the City of Liverpool tonight, a chance to remember 96 football fans and their families who have finally been given the justice they deserve.
