Olympic flame passed to Rio 2016 chief

Thursday, April 28 2016 by SNTV
  • The Olympic flame was passed to the organisers of the 2016 Rio de Janeiro Games at the Panathenaic Stadium in Athens, Greece.

100 days to go until the Rio Olympics Games.

And the Games' iconic symbol, the Olympic torch is now in the hands of the Rio committee.

As is tradition, the Greek Olympic Committee president Spyros Capralos handed the torch to Rio 2016 Organising Committee president Carlos Nuzman during a ceremony in Athens.

It took place at the marble Panathenaic Stadium, where the first modern Olympics were held in 1896.

The Rio flame was lit in Ancient Olympia, the birthplace of the ancient Games in southern Greece, last week.

It will arrive in Brazil on the 3rd May, and will be relayed across the country by around 12-thousand torchbearers... before it reaches the opening ceremony at Rio's Maracana Stadium.
