  • Andy Murray on Friday (22nd April) said he hasn't been deterred from speaking out on issues within tennis, despite the fallout from his comments on the threat of doping to the sport.

(On if he will continue to speak out on doping in sport after the criticism his comments got from Novak Djokovic's coach Boris Becker.)

"I think sport in general over the years has sort of had a distrust really because of everything that's happened over the years. It's obviously our job as tennis players and athletes to try to make sure it is as clean as possible. It's unlikely you are ever going to have a perfect sport, but we want as athletes to be competing in one. And I will continue to fight for that."

(On having all tickets at 25 pounds sterling or less for the event.)

"I think that's always been one of the criticisms really with British tennis - that it is too expensive sometimes. There is obviously a lot of major tennis events, obviously Queen's and Wimbledon, during the summer but they can be expensive if you want to see the top players playing. Hopefully making this event a bit more affordable will give the chance for more families and young kids to come along and watch."

SOUNDBITE (English) Andy Murray, world no. 2 men's tennis player:

(On if he feels a responsibility as one of tennis' top players to be a leader both within tennis and beyond.)

"A lot of the tennis players do a good job of that, try to give back as much as possible. Roger Federer, (Rafa) Nadal, (Novak) Djokovic, the guys that have been around in my time, they all have foundations that have done fantastic things. Hopefully this event will be a good starting point for me and we'll see if it's a success this year and hopefully it will be."
