Friday, April 22 2016 by SNTV
  • Great Britain's swimming team for the 2016 Olympics was announced on Thursday (21st April), with head coach Bill Furniss saying a revamped qualification process will help his swimmers achieve success at Rio 2016.

SOUNDBITE (English) Bill Furniss, Team GB head coach (on the Olympic qualifying format):

"I'm happy they've come through a tough selection policy. There are no passengers on this team. There is no one there to go and enjoy the Olympic experience. Everyone on this team is focused on doing the very best they can in Rio."

SOUNDBITE (English) Bill Furniss, Team GB head coach (on the team's medal hopes):

"We have a medal target as every sport will from UK sport. I don't discuss it with the coaches, I don't discuss it with the athletes. We talk about let's swim the fastest we possibly can on the night in Rio. I think if we do that the medals will come to us."

SOUNDBITE (English) Jazz Carlin, Team GB swimmer (on qualifying for the Olympics after nearly quitting the sport when she missed out on the 2012 Games):

"Definitely. I can't keep the smile off my face and to have that confirmation that I'm on the team, on the plane ready to go to Rio is just an incredible feeling. I can't wait to get stuck into training, enjoy the whole moment and appreciate everything that I've been through. It's an incredible feeling."
