Tuesday, April 19 2016 by SNTV
  • In Berlin, Germany for the Laureus World Sports Awards, Kenyan athlete David Rudisha and All Blacks icon Sean Fitzpatrick have given their reaction after Kenya on Sunday (17th April) triumphed in Singapore in the Sevens World Series.

SOUNDBITE: (English) David Rudisha, Kenyan middle-distance runner:

"Yes, when I got here this morning I saw the news. I am very glad and very proud of our rugby sevens. They have proven they can do well in rugby and I think this is great motivation back home for our country. I know Kenya is used to being known in athletics but now we are starting to do well in other sports, which is really good. We are very proud and we know many other sports in the future will start emerging from our country."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Sean Fitzpatrick, former New Zealand rugby player:

"It's amazing, just phenomenal. Unfortunately at 15s it's going to take years and years to develop the players to be able to compete at the highest level. But in sevens as we've said today, to have Kenya winning the a sevens title in Singapore is just mind-boggling for our game. Well done to them and it gives the people of Kenya a huge smile and maybe we could see some more Kenyan players playing on the world stage."
