Sammy and West Indies teams 'partied through the night'

Tuesday, April 05 2016 by SNTV
  • Captains Darren Sammy and Stefanie Taylor celebrated the win of both the men's and women's West Indies' cricket teams at the ICC World Twenty20 and posed with their trophies outside the majestic Victoria Memorial in Kolkata, India on Monday (4th April).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Darren Sammy, Captain, West Indies:

(describing feelings the day after the win)

"You see these eyes, no sleep, no voice, my voice is gone. I partied all throughout the night. You know I always have to give thanks and praise. If there is one thing I would correct from yesterday is that during my speech, I forgot to say commiserations to the English team. Looking back at it maybe I got caught up in the excitement and emotions...yeah, I would like to say that to them they had a very good World Cup and hard luck to them in finals. But oh..what a night it was."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Darren Sammy, Captain, West Indies:

(his thoughts on England bowler Ben Stokes)

"I got to feel really proud....not only for my men burt for the women's team as well. We did celebrate all through the night. I honestly have not shut my eye for the entire night."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Carlos Brathwaite, West Indies:

    (on the last over)

"The message between myself and Marlon (Samuels) was to get bat on ball and get running. We needed to make sure that we capitalise on each delivery. I think Ben (Stokes) got it wrong on couple of occasions. He is a top lad, top bloke..a legend in his own right and thankfully on that day last night it was my night and brought it home for the team."
