West Indies dramatically beat England to T20 glory

Monday, April 04 2016 by SNTV
  • Carlos Brathwaite hit four consecutive sixes in an incredible final over performance to win the ICC World Twenty20 title for West Indies, after a thrilling final against England in Kolkata on Sunday (3rd April).

England and the West Indies brought the ICC World T20 to a dramatic close on Sunday.

England were put in to bat first and made a dreadful start to the final, with Jason Roy and captain Eoin Morgan both falling to early wickets.

With England floundering Jos Buttler and Joe Root steadied the ship, putting on a 63 run partnership.

However, Buttler fell for 36 with Root eventually following for 54.

And with that the runs dried up as England closed their innings on 155-9.

This put West Indies into the driving seat, however, they made a disastrous start as Root dismissed Johnson Charles and Chris Gayle in the space of two balls to swing the match back in England's favour.

Much like Root had done for England Marlon Samuels came in and saved the Indies innings from collapsing.

However, the headline hero of the day was Carlos Brathwaite.

The West Indies needed 19 runs of the final over, and boy did Brathwaite deliver.

The Batsman smacked Ben Stokes for four consecutive sixes to grab the most dramatic of victories and World Cup glory.

With the West Indian women beat Australia to win their title earlier in the day, there promises to be some almighty partying in the Caribbean
