Waqar delighted Pakistan to play World Cup

  • Subject to final approval from the government, Pakistan's cricket team will go to India for the World T20 after the country's cricket board approved their participation.

The Pakistan squad was due to leave Lahore for India on Wednesday but a three-member delegation - sent by the Pakistan Cricket Board to assess security - advised a delay after specific threats from political parties and groups.

SOUNDBITE (Urdu): Waqar Younis, Pakistan head coach

"I think the reason to be happy is because you know its a big tournament, it's a World Cup. I think not participating would be a very big error or its consequences could have been bad for world cricket. So I think it's a good thing that it is settled regardless of any problems. The situation has improved and the Pakistani team is going with the blessings of Allah. So I think it's good news. As far as preparation is concerned, of course there were a few hiccups. Because in the two or three days we could not get confirmation whether we were going or not. So, of course, that was a setback but it's a big tournament and we are optimistic, God-willing that we will win.
