Ireland and Netherlands eliminated due to rain at World T20

  • Ireland are out of the World T20 after their match with Bangladesh is abandoned due to rain in Dharamsala, India on Friday (11th March).

Downpour sends The Netherlands out of the World Twenty20 - as match against Oman is abandoned due to rain - in Dharamsala, India on Friday (March 11).

Ireland were up against Bangladesh in the T20 World Cup needing a victory to maintain any hope of reaching the main group stage.

Heavy downpours meant the match was reduced to 12 overs per side and Bangladesh batted first, getting off to a quick start despite less than ideal conditions.

Openers Tamim Iqbal and Soumya Sarkar put on 61 for the first wicket off just 27 balls, helped by some shoddy Ireland bowling and fielding.

Unfortunately for Ireland, the rain started to come down again and this time the umpires were forced to admit defeat and abandon the match, meaning both sides took one point apiece.

Ireland's shock defeat by Oman on Wednesday means they can no longer catch Bangladesh or Oman who will now meet on Sunday to decide who goes through to the main competition.

Ireland weren't the casualty of the day, earlier in Dharamsala, Oman's match against the Netherlands was abandoned without a ball being bowled, meaning the Dutch were also eliminated.
