Scotland out as Afghanistan and Zimbabwe both win

Saturday, March 12 2016 by SNTV
  • Scotland were eliminated from the ICC World Twenty20 tournament after suffering an 11-run defeat to Zimbabwe in a Group B match in Nagpur, India. They will play Afghanistan for a place in the main draw of the ICC World Twenty20 after they beating Hong Kong by six wickets in Nagpur.

A must win match for Scotland against Zimbabwe after their first match defeat. And they were gifted their opening wicket in quite comical fashion.

Zimbabwe's openers with their eyes on the ball and not each other. Hamilton Masakadza run out

Vusi Sibanda was patched up and Zimbabwe went about repairing their innings, helped by some poor Scottish fielding.

Zimbabwe setting the Scots an achievable target of 148 to win.

But Scotland run chase never got going, their top four failed to reach double figures, with Sikandar Raza taking a stunning catch from Kyle Coetzer.

Josh Davey's two late sixes tried to haul his side over the line, but they fell 11 runs short as they end yet another major global event without a win.

In the day's other match Afghanistan beat Hong Kong to set up a match against Zimbabwe to qualify for the Super 10s.

Hong Kong's total of 116 not high enough to challenge the Afghans. Mohammad Nabi taking four wickets.

Mohammad Shahzad made a swift 41 including 2 massive 6's to get Afghanistan on their way.

Najibullah Zadran hit the winning runs to secure Afghanistan victory. Hong Kong depart along with Scotland.
