Thursday, March 10 2016 by SNTV
  • Debutants Oman pulled off a stunning two-wicket win over Ireland in their ICC World Twenty20 Group A opener in Dharamsala on Wednesday (March 9).

Bangladesh opened their account at the ICC World T20 with a less than impressive eight-run win over the Netherlands in Group A in Dharamsala on Wednesday (9th March).

Few might have expected to see many classic matches in this first phase of the T20 World Cup.

But Oman and Ireland combined to do just that.

Ireland started brightly and looked to be cruising when a moment of brilliance ended Paul Stirling's time at the crease.

Zeeshan Maqsood with the most incredible of catches, we may not see a better one for the remainder of the competition.

Ireland's batting order continued to get starts but none managed to go on and build a big total.

They ended their 20 overs setting Oman a total of 155 to win.

Oman looked to be a big troubled by the 14th over on 90-5.

But Aamer Ali, making his T20 debut at the age of 37 blasted them right back into contention.

Nevertheless, 14 runs were still required off the final over.

But Max Sorensen bowled a distrusted series of deliveries gifting an historic two wicket victory to spark wild scenes.

In the day's earlier encounter, Bangladesh were up against the Netherlands but there were no surprises in store.

Bangladesh posted a total of 153-7 in their 20 overs and managed to take regular wickets throughout the Netherlands innings as they sealed victory by eight runs.

They will however need to improve if they are to make any significant progress in the competition.
