Morgan 'reasonably confident' ahead of T20 World Cup

Thursday, March 10 2016 by SNTV
  • Speaking in Mumbai on Wednesday (March 9), captain Eoin Morgan believes a touch of "naivety" could prove to be a good thing for England's World Twenty20 prospects in India.

SOUNDBITE (English): Eoin Morgan, England captain:

"Yeah, reasonably confident. Before the South African series we had a really good run of things. As we have seen within the group we do have a lot of talent and a lot of match-winners. It didn't necessarily happen for us in South Africa. I think one of the things after the trip that we talked about was are we still riding playing in the right way and almost being beaten in the right manner, doing the things that we said we would do. And we are. And I think the attitude in the group is still of a really positive mindset and that is very important for us, coming into this major tournament."

SOUNDBITE (English): Eoin Morgan, England captain:

"I think the favourite for this tournament are India, simply for the fact that they are very good in home conditions and they have had a rich run of form lately. I think outside of that it is a very open tournament."

SOUNDBITE (English): Eoin Morgan, England captain:

"Yeah, well we haven't practised yet. I presume Liam Plunkett is fully-fit. He stepped off the plane all right. But yeah, losing any fast bowler just before a major tournament is a blow. I think the benefit that we have in that is that Liam was fit off the back of it. They seem to be on rotation at the moment - him and Steven (Finn), which is quite a weird thing. But at the back of that we have other guys who are out. Mark Wood is coming back from injury, so similar instance. But the fact that we have one fit fast bowler is a really positive sign for us.
