Capsizing and collisions as Briton Ian Williams, on board GAC Pindar, won the World Match Racing Tour event in Fremantle on Monday (7th March).

Stage one of the World Match Racing Tour took place in Freemantle, Australia with competitors on M32 high-performance catamarans.

Five rounds had been negotiated by 20 different crews - and the final final four included a British crew.

Six-time Match Racing world champion Ian Williams had some good fortune to reach the final on Monday (7th April), as his semi-final opponent capsized.

With race three evenly poised TREFOR Match Racing, skippered by Denmark's Nicolai Sehested, lost balance and went over - it was game over too.

Williams winning the race by default to secure his place in the final.

And then in the final, luck was on the side of Williams.

Sweden's Hans Wallen received a top mark double penalty for colliding here with Williams in race one.

Williams won both race two and three to comfortably take victory, ominously for the rest he's sure the team can improve.

"Yeah it is hugely satisfying for GAC Pindar to finish off the final and the regatta in style. I feel like we've been getting stronger and stronger as the regatta has gone on and yeah still a bit of work to do in some areas, particularly the starting - we lost two out of three starts in the final."

Stage two on the World Match Racing Tour takes place in Long Beach, California from the 5th-10th April.
