Sauber & Toro Rosso launch 2016 cars

Wednesday, March 02 2016 by SNTV
  • The Scuderia Toro Rosso and Sauber Formula One teams unveiled their new cars ahead of the second pre-season test at Barcelona on Tuesday (1 March).

Toro Rosso revealed the final livery for the team's new STR11 ahead of pre-season testing in Barcelona on Tuesday.

The car is predominantly dark blue with a red bull on the engine cover.

Drivers Carlos Sainz Jr and Max Versappen were on hand to roll off the covers after completing a solid first test last week - when the car had sported plain blue livery.

The Red Bull junior team did run their new STR11 car for the first time at last week's opening test at the Circuit de Catalunya.

Toro Rosso only secured a deal to run year-old Ferrari engines for the season in early December and the wait contributed to the delays in completing their 2016 livery.

Meanwhile, Sauber revealed the new C35-Ferrari with which they will contest this season's Formula One World Championship.

Sauber have been able to package the rear of their car more tightly - aided by Ferrari's new gearbox - and to cut weight in several areas relative to last year.

The team ran a 2015-spec car at the first pre-season test and the new car will make its track debut on Tuesday.

The 2016 Formula One World Championship begins in Melbourne, Australia on 20 March.
