Maxwell talks spin & De Villiers pre World Cup T20

  • Australian batsmen Glen Maxwell talked up Australia's chances of winning the Twenty20 World Cup in India this month. Australia are currently in South Africa ahead of the tournament and Maxwell speaking on Tuesday (March 1) believes AB De Villiers is a big dangerman in the tournament.

SOUNDBITE (English) Glen Maxwell, Australian cricket player (on his place in the batting order):

"Yeah, we've pretty have a heavy batting order that everyone is sort of fighting for a spot in. So probably hopefully around four and five spot depending on situation I think it is going to happen a lot with the situation of the game as well. I think if we go on pretty well we'll probably be pushed up the order a little bit. Hopefully try combat the spinners, I think that will be pretty key leading to the big tournament."

SOUNDBITE (English) Glen Maxwell, Australian cricket player (on AB de Villiers):

"He's got the ability to swing the ball with the cross seam as well, which is an unbelievable skill. To combat a guy like that you just got to try and pick your areas and just go for him. It is a thing where… we've probably been built into the Australian team just to back ourselves non stop and I'm sure guys who get the chance to play against him and take him on will be backed by the team non stop."

SOUNDBITE (English) Glen Maxwell, Australian cricket player (on their last tour in India):

"We probably didn't play our main team at any stage. I suppose it is an exciting thing that we got so much improvement when you think we made 205 or something like that in our last game and still lost. It's exciting that we can get better than that. Hopefully when we hit Durban on Friday night we can show that with our number one side and hit the ground all guns blazing."
