  • Australia's T20 cricket captain Steve Smith said on Monday (29th February) they want to use their three matches in South Africa over the coming week to gel better as a team, as he spoke after arriving in Durban for the series in the build-up to the T20 World Cup in India in March and April.

SOUNDBITE (English) Steve Smith, captain of the Australian T20 team: (on AB De Villiers)

"He is one of the most destructive if not the most destructive batsman. He does hit the ball in 360 degrees when he is going he is very tough to stop. But we going to have plans in place for him that would hopefully work, he is a terrific player that is hard to stop."

SOUNDBITE (English) Steve Smith, captain of the Australian T20 team: (on South Africa)

"They got some class players that can certainly take the game away from you very quickly, for us we want to win every series that we play, I guess at the back of our minds we know that there is a World Cup not long away. But for us, its about focusing on this series - and trying to do what we can to win this series."

SOUNDBITE (English) Steve Smith, captain of the Australian T20 team: (on the upcoming series)

"We haven't played a great deal of T20 cricket, it is a great opportunity for us to try and gel together as a unit but before the World Cup. Hopefully the South African curator will try and make the pitches a bit slow and turning, I think that will benefit both sides…so will wait and see what we come up in the three-match series."
