Jones: England 'could have easily scored sixty points'

Monday, February 15 2016 by SNTV
  • England beat Italy 40-9 on Sunday (February 14th) to stay unbeaten after the first two matches of the 2016 Six Nations.

SOUNDBITE (English) Eddie Jones, England coach

"We could have easily scored sixty points out there, but in the end we were quite dominant."

SOUNDBITE (English) George Ford, England flyhalf

"No we weren't surprised. We knew Italy was always going to be tough to break down. We went in with a plan in the first half especially, to try and tire them out a little bit, and I think we did that on the whole and then we came out in the second half. The first 20 minutes were still tough, but we got some good field positions, we enjoyed ourselves a little bit in the second half. There was lots of space, a few more turnovers for us to play off, so...."

SOUNDBITE (English) Eddie Jones, England coach:

"We're two (wins) from two (games.) Second half we did some good things, first half we allowed Italy into the game. But the first half set up the second half for us. I was pleased by the way we put them away.

SOUNDBITE (English) Jonathan Joseph, England centre:

"I think it's quite obvious: it's the start for us. I think we need to start much better. International games, the start is massive, it can almost determine the game, so for us we need to start much better."

SOUNDBITE (English) Eddie Jones, England coach:

"In terms of breakdown, I thought that some of our work was excellent, and some of our work was not as good as it should have been, but I think we're making the right sort of progress in that area. In terms of the 23 against Ireland - I've got a pretty good idea in my head now."
