'Disappointed' - Koeman on Wanyama's red mist

  • Southampton manager Ronald Koeman talks about Victor Wanyama's record of receiving red cards this season on Thursday (February 11).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Ronald Koeman, Southampton FC Manager:

    (on Victor Wanyama)

"Of course, very disappointed. First of all for the player by himself - and also for the team because it is an important, key player for the team. He is normally always starting, always in the line-up. Okay, we know...i think he was a little bit unlucky. I spoke to Victor and in my opinion that red card was totally different than the second yellow (card), for example, against Norwich. It was more a stupid fault and really he was unlucky because the intention really was to play the ball - he missed the ball - and the referee took a hard decision. One day later I saw a tackle from (Mathieu) Flamini against Bournemouth and it was a yellow. Maybe that tackle was more red than the tackle of Wanyama. You have to be lucky sometimes. It says he is suspended for five games. It is a long time but we have to accept and, like in other positions in the team, we have enough competition to replace Victor."
