McCullum: 'Test series with Australia the best way to go out'

Friday, February 12 2016 by SNTV
  • New Zealand and Australia look ahead to the first match of a two-Test series in Wellington on Thursday - it will be Kiwi captain Brendon McCullum's 100th consecutive Test match

SOUNDBITE (English) Brendon McCullum, New Zealand captain:

"Oh, the last few days you start to think back on the times you've had, representing New Zeakand and the last fifteen, twenty Test have just been an incredible part of your life. I think the changes that we've been able to make, the evolution of the environment and the performances that we've started to put up. You look back with pride at what you've been able to achieve with the group of guys and being able to play a hundred straight Tests as well, quite proud of the longevity and being able to overcome not just injuries, but also the toughness of touring and the ups and downs of performance and still being able to, I guess, just get back up off the canvans and warrant a place in the team is something you can look back on with a bit of pride as well, but I'm looking forward to finishing these next two Test matches. It's gonig to be a great series, two very evenly-matched teams I think and what better way to go out, I think."

SOUNDBITE (English) Steve Smith, Australia captain:

"Oh, the selectors aren't 100 per cent sure whether he (James Pattinson) would get through this Test match, so that decision was made. I think Jackson Bird's been bowling very well. i saw him for the first time yesterday in the nets and i thought he bowled extremely well. I'm really happy with the eleven we've picked and hopefully we can have a successful week."

SOUNDBITE (English) Steve Smith, Australia captain:

"For us, it's about making sure we adapt toany conditions we're playing in. We haven't been good enough with the bat on wickets that have been doing a bit in the last year orso, so we've got a bit to prove there, it looks like the wicket might do a little bit here, so we've got a bit to prove and we've got to adapt accordingly and a lot better than we have in recent times."
