  • Huub Stevens resigns from Hoffenheim citing problems with his heart.

SOUNDBITE: (German) Huub Stevens, (former) Hoffenheim coach

"Thanks to Thomas Froehlich, our club doctor, he diagnosed me with cardiac arrhythmia, and has transferred me to a specialist. On Monday I was at the University in Heidelberg and they have confirmed this. They called me and said that there might be the possibility that I must undergo surgery in the near future. I think it was last week - perhaps Thursday - when Alex (Alexander Rosen, Sporting Director of Hoffenheim) received the information about my condition. This morning I went to him and informed him that the risk is too high considering the situation we're (Hoffenheim) currently in. I am aware of the situation and I know that you must not only be 100 percent, but 120 percent fit in order to give everything for the team, for the club and for everyone else involved here. The risk is too high to have the belief (or confidence) to do things that you actually can't do. This is why we have decided to go on this path."
