Sunderland's Adam Johnson pleads guilty to child sex charge

    Sunderland footballer Adam Johnson has pleaded guilty to one count of sexual activity with a child and one charge of grooming.

    The winger, who has 12 England caps, appeared at Bradford Crown Court today where he also denied two charges of sexual activity with a girl aged under 16.

    Johnson was arrested in March last year, the alleged incidents had taken place in or about the area of Castle Eden, where Johnson is from, and Wingate.

    His case is due to be formally opened on Friday.

    Johnson, began his career at Middlesbrough before moving to Manchester City and then on to Sunderland for £10m in 2012.
