  • Werder Bremen booked their place in the semi-finals of the DFB Pokal beating hosts Bayer Leverkusen 3-1.

    A moment's silence before kick-off for the victims of Tuesday morning's train crash in Bavaria ahead of the DFB Pokal quarter-finals between Bayer Leverkusen and Werder Bremen.

    Leverkusen were gifted an opportunity to take control of the match midway through the first half after defender Alejandro Galvez was drawn into a foul by Stefan Kiessling.

    Javier Hernandez took the spot kick scoring his 22nd goal in all competitions this season.

    Bremen levelled on the half-hour mark, with Santiago Garcia directing a volley from Fin Bartels into the back of the Leverkusen net following a free kick from Florian Grillitsch.

    And the visitors would take the lead with just over three minutes left in the first half as referee Wolfgang Stark pointed to the penalty spot for a second time in the match.

    Claudio Pizarro coolly finishing from the spot and Bremen led 2-1 at half-time.

    Ten-man Leverkusen were caught on the break in the 82nd minute.

    Levin Oztunali - on loan from Leverkusen - surged down the right wing, cutting the ball back to Pizarro.

    The Peruvian's shot was blocked by defender Jonathan Tah, but Florian Grillitsch, tapped into an empty net.

    Bremen through to the last four with a 3-1 win.
