  • Belarus beat Canada 3-2 in World Group first-round tie on Sunday (7th February).

Belarus and Canada were tied at 1-1 heading into the second day of their Fed Cup tie on Sunday (7th February).

First up Olga Govortsova took on Francoise Abanda, with the latter coming out on top to tip the scales in Canada's favour.

Abanda made up for her defeat to Aliaksandra Sasnovich on Saturday by beating Govortsova in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

Canada had the chance to seal victory via Aleksandra Wozniak who took on Sasnovich. However, Belarus were handed a lifeline by Sasnovich who kept the tie alive by beating Wozniak in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.

So everything was riding on the deciding doubles match. And it was Belarus that came out on top - beating the Canadian duo 6-2, 6-4 to progress into the semi-finals.
