  • Canada and Belarus are tied at 1-1 after the opening day of their Fed Cup World Group II tie in Quebec City on Saturday (6th February).

    Aliaksandra Sasnovich faced Francoise Abanda in the first match of the Fed Cup tie between Belarus and Canada.

    Belarusian Sansnovich made a strong start and took the first set 6-4.

    However, Abanda fought back in the second and took it 6-2. An excellent showing from the Canadian ranked 343rd in the world.

    Sasnovich came back stronger in the third and the player ranked 99 in the world eventually came out on top - breaking Abanda to seal the set 6-3 and win the match.

    So 1-0 to Belarus heading into the second encounter between Ola Govortsova and Aleksandra Wozniak.

    And Wozniak began Canada's fightback in good form, breaking Govortsova at the first time of asking.

    And the Wozniak did not let up and comfortably took the first set 6-2.

    It was a similar story in the second as Govortsova found herself second best once again.

    Wozniak broke the Belarusian to seal a straight sets win that levelled the tie up at 1-1, but also makes her the most successful player in Canadian Fed Cup history.
