  • England's Danny Willett clinches victory at the Dubai Desert Classic on Sunday (7th February) by birdying his final putt to win.

Danny Willett won the Dubai Desert Classic by a single shot on Sunday (7th January), and in so doing took home his fourth European Tour title.

He'd carried this slender margin over from the penultimate day and while pre-tournament favourites Henrik Stenson and Rory McIlroy (the defending champion) surged up the table with rounds of 6 under and 7 under respectively, the Englishman did exactly the right amount of work to win. It was with this birdie put on the 18th green that sealed the victory.

And with this putt he snatched the title from Rafa Cabrera-Bello, Friday's leader, who finished at 18 under with 270 for the tournament and tied for second place with Andy Sullivan.

Korea's Byeong Hun-An (65) and Spain's Alvaro Quiros (65) finished in joint fourth place on 272.

While Stenson and McIlroy tied for sixth. The world number two made up lots of ground on the final day - rising 15 places in a single outing - but had left himself with too much to do to retain the huge Arabic jug that passed on instead to Willett.
