Will Willett Win Dubai?

Sunday, February 07 2016 by SNTV
  • On Saturday (6th February) Danny Willett leads the Dubai Desert Classic by one shot going into the final day.

World no 20 Englishman Danny Willett shot his second successive 7-under par round to top the Dubai Desert Classic leaderboard on the penultimate day. His purple patch was confirmed when he made his only bogey of the day - only to follow it up with this Eagle on the 13th. Of his form he had this to say:

"It doesn't happen all the time: just some great golf yesterday and today. Kept the ball under fantastic control with some cross winds; hit it in there close - you know, did everything right really."

Only a shot separates Willett and Friday's leader Mr Consistency Rafa Carbrera-Bello. The 2012 Champion carded his third successive 67 of the week to come in second at 15 under for the tournament.

Willett's compatriot Andy Sullivan, runner-up to McIlroy in November's DP World Tour Championship, produced a second consecutive 66 to come in third with 202.

And the defending Champion himself Rory McIlroy finished 8 off the lead. The longest running European Tour tournament in the Middle East has only ever seen one successful title defence.

Play commences on the final day at 7.30am local time.
