Paredes punched Costa - Hiddink

Friday, February 05 2016 by SNTV
  • Post-match reaction from Guss Hiddink and Quique Sanchez Flores following Watford's 0-0 draw against Chelsea on Wednesday (3 February).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Guus Hiddink, interim Chelsea manager: On Juan Carlos Paredes and Diego Costa incident

"It was very clear and it was very close and it was just 10 yards from our bench. And Paredes punched Diego in his back and after that they stumbled. And then Paredes brought his hands to his head and Diego was nowhere near his head. They stumbled. So I think this is something that they must not do. It is provocation to get someone off the pitch. Happily the referee and also the assistant referee saw it so they didn't go into this provocation. That was the period it happened. There was no time when Diego was close to his face."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Quique Sanchez Flores, Watford head coach: On Juan Carlos Paredes and Diego Costa incident

"I think nothing exactly. I think the contact in the Premier League is very normal. These kinds of players are always looking to find a contact in every single challenge. But (Juan Carlos) Paredes resisted very well. He tried to play and tried to defend well. It is nothing new. I understand (Diego) Costa because I coached him and in every single play he wants to challenge. (He) was very hard and strong also. Nothing happened really. Nothing strange."
