  • Post-match reaction following England's 39-run win (D/L) over South Africa in the first encounter of their five ODI series in Bloemfontein on Wednesday (3 February).

SOUNDBITE (English) Eoin Morgan, captain of the England cricket team: on the next game

"Going into Port Elizabeth it's that type of pitch where you need to adapt, it is completely different to most surfaces in South Africa. So being one nil ahead does give us a little bit of confidence. But certainly South Africa were right in the game today from ball one so we are not much ahead."

SOUNDBITE (English) Eoin Morgan, captain of the England cricket team: on the importance of the opening batsmen

"Yeah, absolutely the two openers set the tone from the very start and that really set the tone for the series for us, and particularly our innings. We were going at eight and half when Jos (Buttler) came in and for him to be given a bit of time get himself in and play the role that he does is important for us as a side because it takes a lot of pressure of him."

SOUNDBITE (English) AB de Villiers, captain of the South African cricket team: on not blaming his bowlers for defeat

"It was a tough tusk to loose I think. It was really hard on the bowlers the 10 or 15 overs. It took us awhile to realise that it was an incredibly good wicket. we were a little bit slow to adapt with our lengths, but I'm not going to be to hard on the bowlers, I don't think that they had that bad of a day I think we should it with bat in hand, cruising at seven and half an over and not even trying to push the run rate up so it was a really good cricketing wicket and I'm not going to be hard on my bowlers."
