Morgan: " It is a completely new look team"

  • England, South Africa, one-day international (ODI) series, Jason Roy

SOUNDBITE (English) Eoin Morgan, captain of the England cricket team:

"I think it is a completely new look team. We've played three series, two at home and one away, and we have won two. But ultimately as a side we are playing a completely different brand of cricket. We are playing a similar brand probably to (what) South Africa did in the World Cup. And we're almost playing a little bit of catch up in that regard, because we were not good enough at the time. And I think the talent we have within the squad are good enough to execute a good enough plan to, down the line, hopefully do really well."

SOUNDBITE (English) Eoin Morgan, captain of the England cricket team (on injury to Jason Roy):

"It is unfortunate we haven't trained as of yet. He obviously had a back spasm yesterday. He is expected to take part in training today and see how he comes out at the back of that and if a fitness test in the morning is required he'll go through that."

SOUNDBITE (English) Eoin Morgan, captain of the England cricket team (on injury to Jason Roy):

"If Roy is fit, yes I have a fair idea and it is very exciting. I mean it does create a bit of a problem when guys continue to score runs, but it is a really good problem and it continues to expand our group of players that we are trying to do to the lead up to world tournaments. We're not trying to just have 11, 12 or 13 players. We are trying to get 17 players together whereby they are all pushing for places at any given time."

SOUNDBITE (English) Eoin Morgan, captain of the England cricket team.

"Other guys who are in the side are well aware of the workload that they have had. Broady (Stuart Broad) in particular who has come into the squad, he's bowled a lot in this Test series. He hasn't played a One Day International game in just under a year, so a little bit of time probably at the start of this tour and maybe we might see him towards the back end (of the tour). The thing about it is that we don't know our best 11 yet and I think that is really exciting. So, we are still driving for the right combination, one thing that does help is Ben Stokes coming back in, (that) balances the side really well."
