Sri Lankan coach talks match-fixing & India T20 series

  • Graham Ford begins his second innings as Sri Lankan coach at a press conference on Tuesday (2nd February) in Colombo, while Lasith Malinga takes charge as the newly-appointed captain of the team.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Graham Ford, coach, Sri Lanka (on match-fixing allegations and player indiscipline):

"The match-fixing, as far as I know, if a player gets approached there is nothing more you can do but report it to the management and to the authorities and as far as I understand, that is exactly what happened. It's nobody's fault if you get approached, so I don't think there is really much of an issue there at all. Like I said earlier, the attitude and the discipline and the desire to perform well for their country was just so evident when I was with the team previously - and I don't expect it to be any different. As far as off the field behaviour, I don't think that there will be any problems with the players that I have come across."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Graham Ford, coach, Sri Lanka (on playing India in the three match T20 series):

"Look, India have just played some fantastic cricket in Australia. They are going to be back in their own back garden, so its a tough place to start for us with a young side. But its a great opportunity to find out just exactly where we stand and how good some of our young guys are and answer some questions. So its a good opportunity although it's going to be some very tough cricket."
