  • Chris Froome faced the media in Melbourne, Australia on Tuesday (2nd February) and spoke out about cyclists using motor on their bikes. Froome was speaking as he looks forward to competing in the Jayco Herald Sun Tour.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Chris Froome, Tour de France champion (on motors being concealed in bicycles):

"Well, for the last few years now there have been rumours about motors being concealed within the bikes. And it's a concern that I've had, something that I've brought up with UCI Independent Commission when I sat down with them, and said (to the commission) 'listen, from my point of view, there are these rumours, it would be my advice that the UCI implement controls and measures to start checking bikes more regularly,' which, just speaking from personal experience over the last couple of seasons, my bike has been checked and dismantled at least a dozen times. So, I think they are taking the threat seriously and hopefully this will mean that they only increase the number of checks they do do on the World Tour level."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Chris Froome, Tour de France champion (on motors being concealed within bicycles):

"I mean I've got no idea, I've got no idea. At the moment we only have rumours to go on, but as I said, all I can is hope that the authorities take this matter really seriously and look at implementing more and more random controls throughout cycling on the pro tour level, on mountain bike, cross as we've seen. I think that's the only way forward, it's the same way that the authorities have approached doping."
