Australian Open winner Angelique Kerber arrived back in Frankfurt, Germany on Monday (1st February) to a triumphant reception and homecoming
SOUNDBITE: (German) Angelique Kerber, 2016 Australian Open champion:
"I have slept very well. I have really slept for 25 hours. And I have reviewed all these emotions I had again. It is really something mad and very special what I have done in the last two weeks. And now to arrive back here as Grand Slam winner is something very special."
SOUNDBITE: (German) Angelique Kerber, 2016 Australian Open champion:
"I have slept a lot, because I haven't really slept after the final. I have done so many things. In the evening we went out for dinner and we had some drinks. But when I had a few minutes for myself during the flight: this is a dream coming true. I have achieved something that I have been working on and dreamed of for such a long time. And then to play against Serena (Williams) in the final, which was something very special for me...no words can describe this.
SOUNDBITE: (German) Angelique Kerber, 2016 Australian Open champion:
"There was applause (during the flight). I have shot a lot of photographs. Everyone has recognised me since I've left Melbourne. This is really special and everything has become different in a way."
Q: And where is the trophy?"
"The trophy will be sent home, because it really weighs more than 10kg, so it is very heavy. I have carried it with me everywhere the entire day after the final. And they have promised to send it to my home."
