How pal's advice helped Lawrie lead in Qatar

  • Paul Lawrie leads at the halfway stage of the Qatar Open, less than a week after missing the cut in Abu Dhabi, after following a friend's advice on his putting stroke.

Paul Lawrie missed the cut in Abu Dhabi last week but a few days later he holds a one-stroke lead at the halfway stage in the Qatar Open. His friend and fellow Scottish player Marc Warren said Lawrie's putting stroke was too long and too slow. Lawrie listened and is now 11 under after the first two rounds.

Nicolas Colsearts is on ten under and then there is a group of three tied on nine under including Rafael Cabrera-Bello. This led to a birdie on the 16th for him.

England's Andrew Johnson and this man Gregory Bourdy are also one shot off the lead. Bourdy had a hole-in-one on the 8th, this drive helped him birdie the 16th.

Sergio Garcia is in the group of five a further shot back, he really charged up the leaderboard with three birdies and an eagle on the back nine.

Going in the opposite direction is Louis Oosthuizen, he started the day as joint leader but a one over 73 leaves him five shots off the lead and in need of a shift in momentum.
