Els: "Qatar tough to win"

Wednesday, January 27 2016 by SNTV
  • Leading players spoke on ahead of the Qatar Masters.

SOUNDBITE (English) Ernie Els, 2005 winner:

    (on past Qatar Masters winners):

"It's been amazing how quickly time flies. There's been some great champions at the Qatar Masters. You look at Henrik (Stenson), he's won here before and Adam Scott, Sergio (Garcia). The who's who of golf have won tournaments here, really strong winners so it's going to take another strong player to win here this week."

SOUNDBITE (English) Robert Karlsson, 2010 winner:

(on winning the Qatar Masters in 2010):

"I played really really well the last day and usually when you're in it you don't think about it, but I definitely had a great week. I remember holding the big, great, fantastic trophy, that's pretty much what I remember. You usually have stronger memories from the first event you win, but this was very special and a great place to win."

SOUNDBITE (English) Sergio Garcia, 2014 winner:

(on having past success at this championship):

"Yes I've done well on this golf course, obviously winning once and finishing in the top ten a lot of the years I've been here. It's always a tournament I enjoy coming back to and starting my year. Apparently it's going to be quite windy, so we'll see how we can cope with that, but it should be a good championship."

SOUNDBITE (English) Chris Woods 2013 winner:

    (on winning in 2013)

"Time passes really quick on tour. Three years since I won here, I didn't play last year because of injury. It's nice to come back and the 18th hole is always going to be special for me, eagle on the last to win. I look forward to getting out on the course tomorrow."

SOUNDBITE (English) Chris Woods 2013 winner:

(on trying to make the 2016 Ryder Cup team)

"It's got the potential, obviously I've made a good start towards the Ryder Cup points. That's all it is at the moment, it's still a long way to go and I've just made a good start, that's how I'm looking at it. A lot of golf to be played, but I know I'm capable of getting close."
