Reaction after Rickie Fowler won the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship on 16-under-par: Fowler won by a single stroke, ahead of Thomas Pieters, with Henrik Stenson and Rory McIlroy tied in third while world number one, Jordan Speith, finished fifth.
SOUNDBITE (English) Rickie Fowler, tournament winner:
"This was a big one. You know last year, obviously having a multiple win season, but to come back and work on getting back in the winners circle after a successful season, keep moving forward, and this is a great start. Obviously, a great field today which HSBC has helped put together here. The course is in perfect shape. It was a lot of fun today. It was a bit stressful at times, Thomas was playing well, it was fun to go kind of head-to-head with him, to be in the same group so we had a good time and it's just nice to come out on top this week."
SOUNDBITE (English) Thomas Pieters:
"Yeah, I mean I didn't do much wrong today, maybe stay a little bit calmer, but I think I did, and you know next time maybe some more putts drop, that's it."
SOUNDBITE (English) Rory McIlroy:
"Yeah, not quite what I wanted. It seems like this could be the tournament that I just can't quite, can't quite master, but it's been good. I mean I've played a lot of good golf here at this golf course in Abu Dhabi. You know I was just saying there, there was a stretch of 18 holes sort of in the middle of the golf tournament, I think I played them in one over par and you just can't do that and you know I wasted a lot of opportunities out there this week so it really is a story of what could have been, but still a good finish and a lot of good golf in there so plenty of positives to take away."
SOUNDBITE (English) Jordan Spieth:
"Yeah, I was talking with Michael (Greller) up the 18th fairway, saying wow we're actually, you know a birdie here we're definitely top 10 and I felt like we were off this week, we were off this week, I didn't make anything. I didn't give myself a lot of chances the first couple of rounds, I didn't get any rhythm and then when I did have chances, they just wouldn't go. You know just a little off on the read of the speed and one of the two. You know sometimes that happens during a week, and we kind of grind it out, 8 under on the weekend in what really could have been something special, but it also could have been worse so kept our head in it there, the back nine, really finished four under in the last seven holes to carry some momentum going forward off a week that I could have just bagged it in."
