O'Sullivan leads as fog disrupts Abu Dhabi Championship

Sunday, January 24 2016 by SNTV
  • Andy Sullivan took a one-shot lead at the Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Championship on Friday, but the Englishman will have to wait to see if he's still on top of the leaderboard when the second round concludes on Saturday morning.

A blanket of fog meant a delay of almost three hours on day two of the Abu Dhabi Championship. Enough to mean Jordan Spieth could only play 13 holes, he wasn't up to his usual stunning standards either with two bogies and just one birdie leaving him at three under.

Rory McIlroy also struggled, he missed every chance for a birdie and dropped a shot on the ninth.

Both of them will hope to be playing as well as Rickie Fowler when they resume in the morning, the final man of the marquee group picked up three birdies to go level with McIlroy on five under.

This was pretty special from another big name in this field, Martin Kaymer sank this for a birdie on the 7th, he is also on five under after playing 12 holes today.

The overnight leader Bryson Dechambeau is still shocking the big names, the amateur has a full nine holes to complete in the morning and he is now nine under.

But the clubhouse lead belongs to England's Andy O'Sullivan, he repeated his five under on day one to head into the weekend on ten under par.

It's all a bit all over the place though, and it could just be the man who deals best with the disruption that comes out on top.
