  • American amateur Bryson DeChambeau hits a 64 to lead the likes of Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and Rickie Fowler after the first round of the Abu Dhabi Championship.

The opening round of the Abu Dhabi Championship featured world number one Jordan Spieth, Rory McIlroy and this man Rickie Fowler all in the same three-ball, this birdie on the 17th helped Fowler to a two-under 70.

Spieth went round in 68, this approach led to a birdie on the 4th.

McIlroy had the best day of the big three though, he sank 8 birdies including this one at the 15th for a six under par 66.

Ahead of him is Henrik Stenson, who will be pleased with his first round. The Swede birdied five of the first eight holes, a bogie on the 9th followed but that was just a blip as he ended just one shot off the lead.

For all the star names though, it is an American amateur Bryson DeChambeau who is out in front after a stunning 64. He did bogie the 3rd but was flawless from then on sinking seven birdies and an eagle. It wasn't meant to be this American stealing the Europeans' thunder.
