  • Ryan Vachon was the only person to finish the Elite Mixed Climbing Competition at the Oulay Ice Festival in Colorado.

This is the self described Mecca for ice climbers. And this is the best of the best than come to Oulay Ice Festival climbing walls, rocks and of course ice.

The elite mixed climbing competition was won by the this man a 43-year-old scientist and educator from Colorado. Ryan Vachon was the only man to reach the finish.

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Ryan Vachon:

"First of all, getting to the top, being the first person to the top is an absolute honour. It's an absolute honour to be able to get up there. Being the first person though is kind of intimidating because you don't know that you can solve the mystery at all. So it was pretty neat for me to be able to do that. I found it pretty technical and I like to be able to use some side pulls and quiet body, but in general that's not my style, so I was happy to do something out of my ordinary."

Lucie Hrozova is pretty out of the ordinary too, the 27-year-old Czech continued Ouray's tradition of strong women as she came third overall.

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Lucie Hrozova:

"Well, I enjoyed it because it was a nice combination of ice, rock and climbing wall so I enjoyed it."
Between the pair was Sam Elias, who ran out of time but still tried to reach the top, he couldn't get there though showing just what an incredible achiement it was from the ice cool Vachon.
