Els makes Joburg Open cut

Saturday, January 16 2016 by SNTV
  • South Africa's Ernie Els sinks a birdie on the 18th to make the Joburg Open cut as England's Ross McGowan shoots 62 to take a three-shot lead.

For the first time in it's 10 year history, the Joburg Open has South Africa's finest ever golfer in the field.

Ernie Els is playing here to improve his putting, it's going pretty well too, successive 70s means he's done enough to make the cut.

A putt like this from Richard Sterne would certainly improve Els's confidence on the greens, that eagle helped Sterne to eight under.

The man to beat here though is England's Ross McGowan this eagle on 15th helped him go round in 62 for a three-stroke lead.

Two South Africans are in the group of four joined for second, Haydn Porteous and this man Jean Hugo who made this for a birdie on the 13th.

England's Anthony Wall followed his 65 in the first round with a 67 on day two to stay in contention.

The final man in the group is Felipe Aguilar, the Chilean is getting better, a 67 on day one was followed by a 65 here.

Plenty still in the hunt as we head into the weekend.
