  • South African fast bowler Hardus Viljoen spoke on Friday (15th January) after taking the wicket of England captain Alastair Cook with his first ball in Test cricket at the Wanderers in Johannesburg.

SOUNDBITE: (English) Hardus Viljoen, South Africa fast bowler (on getting his debut wicket withy his first delivery)

"It's actually still unreal. Actually I had a bit of a claw the first ball. Obviously you've got a bit of adrenaline pumping and nerves and, yah, lucky enough to get a wicket first ball and I just felt that settled the nerves a little bit and you're more likely to try and settle in a lot quicker than going and leaking a few runs early on in a spell where you're making your debut and you don't get a good start. So for me it was a dream start to get a wicket first ball. I would have liked to nicked him off on the off side, but they say every one counts so..."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Hardus Viljoen, South Africa fast bowler (on his call-up to the squad ahead of the second Test)

"Yah, just the short thing. We tried to go on holiday, nothing worked out. We couldn't catch a flight, our accommodation got cancelled and we said, 'No we're just going to visit some friends down the road' and the moment we drove out the gate, I got a phone call from the convenor of selectors, Mr Linda Zonda, and I almost went over the pavement when I got the call. But yeah, here I am making my Test debut. They usually say things happen quickly when you do get the opportunity to play and it definitely did. I felt that the first game that I sat out, to be part of the team is a massive thing. Just to settle in, get to know the guys, it's a long procedure for a player to settle into a Test squad and stuff so for me until now everything has been awesome."
