European team looking forward to EurAsia Cup

Wednesday, January 13 2016 by SNTV
  • Darren Clarke and his European team are looking forward to the EurAsia Cup which starts in Kuala Lumpur on Friday (15th January).

SOUNDBITE: (English) Darren Clarke, Europe captain (on whether he is thinking of the Ryder Cup)

"No, it's EurAsia Cup. Obviously there's no Ryder Cup stuff going on in the back of my mind with possible pairings, but first and foremost, it's this week. We as Europe, we're here to try and win, as Jeev is, with his Asian team. The thoughts and everything I'm trying to do is going towards this week. When we're finished this week, then obviously in reflection, we'll be looking back at a few pairings and what happened during the week, hopefully if I've learned something from this week come September, then so be it. First and foremost, it's definitely this week and the EurAsia Cup."

    SOUNDBITE: (English) Andy Sullivan, Europe

"Playing in team golf again, I think, you saw a little side of how good it is, when you play for yourself all the time, it's only been like four years for me since we played Walker Cup and it's absolutely phenomenal, you just go out there and give it absolutely everything, so for me, you know, really looking forward to the week, and even today, just going out with the boys, you know, was having a good laugh out there, you see there quite a lot of camaraderie in the team."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Bernd Wiesberger, Europe (on Europe being the hot favourites)

"Yah but we're not, we're not here expecting to win outright but we're gonna do our best to perform as good as we can and we know it's gonna take all of our game to come out of this week successful but everybody's prepared well so far and yah, it's gonna be a good match-up."

SOUNDBITE: (English) Darren Clarke (on large number of Britons in Europe team)

"I think, yes, there is quite a few British guys on the team, but everybody had an opportunity to qualify for the team. Just so happens this year that a lot of the British guys have played really well and are an addition on the team. With us, yes, Europe, we are different nationalities but we are all here as one team. The fact that there is so many British doesn't make any difference. We're here as Europe. So, doesn't make any, that much difference."
