Azarenka and Kerber to contest Brisbane International final

Saturday, January 09 2016 by SNTV
  • Victoria Azarenka and Angelique Kerber progress to the final of the WTA Brisbane International with semi-final victories over Samantha Crawford and Carla Suarez Navarro on Friday (8th January).

All eyes were on Victoria Azarenka at the WTA Brisbane International on Friday (8th January) as she looked to continue her blistering form in the tournament against Samantha Crawford in the semi-finals.

Azarenka has dominated down under so far and Friday's game against Crawford did not see this change. The Belarusian did not drop a game in the 1st set and took it 6-0

The second set saw a moment of confusion when a Crawford challenge was missed by the umpire - much to the annoyance of Azarenka. The resulting review clearly showing that the ball had been in.

The slight delay did not throw Azarenka off her game and the former world number one tied up the second set 6-3 to take the match.

And Azarenka's opponent in the Brisbane International final will be No. 4-seed Angelique Kerber who triumphed over Carla Suarez Navarro earlier in the other semi-final.

Kerber was equally as dominant in this match as Azarenka was in hers and took the first set 6-2. The second went much the same way as the first and was easily won by Kerber 6-3.

The German will have to be on top form to beat Azarenka in Saturday's final, with the latter hitting the kind of form that could see her win a third Australian Open title later this month.
