Afridi welcomes training camp ahead of World Twenty20

Thursday, January 07 2016 by SNTV
  • Pakistan captain Shahid Afridi confirmed his support for the returning bowler Mohammad Amir as his T20 squad met for a training camp in Lahore on Wednesday (6th January).

SOUNDBITE: (Urdu) Shahid Afridi, Twenty20 captain:

"I think there is a need for a training camp before the Twenty20 World Cup because we have no time ahead. I think this camp was good in terms of fitness. But along with fitness, we should focus on skills. The one thing which we miss is a partnership of batsmen, we must improve and avoid back to back wickets falling. The World Twenty20 is not far away, if we commit club-class mistakes it is not good for the team. We are now playing against the world's top teams, and as you know our round is tough."

SOUNDBITE: (Urdu) Shahid Afridi, Twenty20 captain:

"A person makes a mistake, and accepts his mistake. As you are mentioning about my tweet, I mentioned over there that Amir spoke the truth in England, he did not lie, he spoke the truth in court and has served his punishment. He is now playing cricket, so I think Amir should be given a chance and I have always had a soft spot in my heart for him."
