Reaction as Amla steps down at end of second Test
SOUNDBITE: (English) Hashim Amla, South Africa captain
"After careful consideration and considerable thought, I wish to announce that I will be stepping down as captain of the Proteas Test team with immediate effect. This decision was not an easy one to make but I felt I needed to be true to myself having done a personal inspection. I am comfortable with my decision knowing I have given my best at all times. However, I feel there is a greater need to work on my own game thus giving me the opportunity to continue contributing as a batsmen like I have done previously."

"The decision has been purely based on the fact that I think somebody else can do a better job. I have always wanted to be somebody that leads from the front and I think that throughout the captaincy I've managed to do that most of the time. Everybody goes through a small patch here or there of not getting runs. But that's part of any captain's life anyway. I feel that my leadership style and for a young team like this, I gave it my best shot and I thoroughly enjoyed it, so somebody else will probably take over."
SOUNDBITE: (English) Alastair Cook, England captain
"Yeah it was a nervous day actually, when you get nicked off down the leg side and then you sit and watch, it's never a particularly enjoyable day as a captain, I won't lie to you. But I thought Johnny and Mo calmed a few nerves. We always seemed to be a good position to save the game, we would like to have done two or three down and be calm but that's never really the English way is it? A few people came over to watch so we thought we'd make it exciting."
