  • Ukraine beat the Czech Republic 2-1 in the Hopman Cup on Tuesday (5th January).

Ukraine came up against the Czech Republic at the Hopman Cup looking to push themselves closer to the final.

Ukraine pair Alexandr Dolgopolov and Elina Svitolina continued their excellent start to the Hopman Cup following convincing wins in their singles ties against the Czech Republic.

After both claimed wins against the USA on Monday it was more of the same on Tuesday.

Svitolina shone in a 7-5, 6-2 win over Karolina Pliskova.

The world number 19 Svitolina beat her higher-ranked counterpart Pliskova, seeded 11th in the world, serving out the match after a comfortable second set that lasted just 26 minutes.

Then, Dolgopolov beat Vesely in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6, to give Ukraine an unassailable 2-0 lead.

There was little to seperate the two, with a tiebreaker required in the second set for the Ukrainian to secure the win.

That left the mixed doubles tie, which the Czech pair Vesely and Pliskova won in straight sets, 6-3, 6-1 for a mere consolation.

Ukraine adds victory over the Czech to its triumph over the USA and is now the only country in Group A not to suffer a defeat ahead of its final tie against Australia Gold on Thursday.
