World record! Teenager hits 1,009 not out

  • A Mumbai teenager became the first batsman to score 1,000 runs in an officially recognised innings on Tuesday (5th January).

An Indian teenager scored more than one thousand runs in an innings to set a new world record.

Pranav Dhanawade smashed 59 sixes, 129 fours off just 323 balls for his school side K.C. Gandhi in an inter-school Cup match.

The 15-year-old took full advantage of the 30-yard boundary on one side of the ground, yet appeared blissfully unaware of his achievement.

"I didn't have anything in mind. But it happened as I kept scoring runs."

Dhanawade breaks the previous minor cricket record of 629 set back in 1899 by a 13-year-old from Clifton College.

The record-breaker said his father, an auto-rickshaw driver, had pushed him to play and was partly responsible for his success.

Mumbai school cricket is highly competitive and has produced cricketers like legendary batsman Sachin Tendulkar and current Indian opener Rohit Sharma.

Dhanawade is going the right way about it, if he's to be the next legend of Indian cricket.
