SNTV bizzare review of 2015

Friday, January 01 2016 by SNTV
  • SNTV takes a look at the more bizzare sporting moments of 2015 that you may have missed...

Sport comes in many forms and there was plenty of weird and wonderful event that took place in 2015.

For example....you may have missed the World Toe Wrestling Championship that took place in England in June. The sport was created in 1976 and has become an annual event since then. Brit Alan 'Nasty' Nash was crowned this year's champion whilst Tracy tipp toe took the women's title.

Across the Atlantic there was also odd goings on with the North American Wife Carrying Championship where brave husbands must overcome a number of obstacles with their wife clinging on to their backs. Unfortunately not every couple made it to the finish line.

Meanwhile, Kenichi Ito set a new world record for the fastest 100m completed on all fours. The athlete dubbed 'monkey man' completed the 100m in 15.71 seconds. Usain Bolt he aint!

Never mind the Premier League all eyes in the English Cotswolds were focussed on the annual football in the river match in August. How the event passed a pitch inspection we'll never know.

This year saw the mash-up we'd all been waiting for. Soccer and golf came together to match up fancy footwork with dodgy socks.

The annual Red Bull air race event always brings plenty of entertainment and this year was no different. Numerous teams came along to showcase their flying contraptions before catapulting them into the river below. Top marks for innovation for this team's hand gliding effort.

2015 was a big year for food based fun in the UK with food fight challenges and cheese rolling events taking place. Cooper's Hill in Gloucester hosts the event on a yearly basis with the bizarre event drawing in a large crowd of spectators and plenty of brave, or perhaps mad, participants.

Keeping the food theme going is the Official World Black pudding Throwing Championships held in Ramsbottom in England. The idea is to dislodge as many large Yorkshire Puddings using just a black pudding and a strong throwing arm.

If you thought the Grand National was the pinnacle of animal related sports then think again. This year saw some special animal events take place including Ostrich racing and action from Bacon Brook where this pig racecourse came complete with hurdles.

And finally, this round-up of all things weird wouldn't be complete without Otto the English bulldog who earned himself a place in the record books for journeying through the longest human tunnel travelled through by a canine on a skateboard. The record breaking attempt took place in Peru with Otto successfully skating through 30 pairs of legs on his way to breaking the record.
