Wins for Khimki, Olympiacos & Malaga in Top 16 opener

  • Wins for all three home sides on the opening night of the Euroleague Top 16 on Tuesday (29th December).

    Three games from Round 2 of the Euroleague on Tuesday to kick off the next stage of the competition.

    First up, a Moscow derby between Khimki and CSKA.

    The visitors taking an eleven point lead in the first half.

    And on the buzzer at the break, Cory Higgins landed one from downtown to carry a 10-point lead into the second half.

    Alexey Sheved hit the winner for Khimki as they finished it 91-89 for their first win of the last 16 and only CSKA's second defeat of the year.

    Over in Greece the atmosphere was as lively as ever.

    Olympiakos and Barcelona two of the top teams from the regular standings.

    A relatively even first half was torned apart with a 16-2 run from the Greeks before the break.

    Vangelis Mantzaris landed a three before the buzzer to complete a routine victory 74-59 for Olympiakos.

    The final game was Malaga take on their pool rival from the first round Darussafaka Dogus Istanbul.

    The Spaniards had a 7-3 record coming into this one aganist Istanbul's 4-6.

    Istanbul then started to make mistakes. Daniel Diez with this steal to put Malaga seven clear.

    The lead was nine as Edwin Jackson dunked to give Unicaja Malaga an opening round of 16 win.
