  • Reaction after a crucial double breakthrough before lunch set New Zealand on course to a 122-run win over Sri Lanka in the first test at the University Oval and a 1-0 lead in the two-match series

"The wicket was pretty flat today hence why we declared when we did, we thought we needed enough time to be able to take those last ten wickets and there is obviously times when their is a bit of resistance, then we had to keep plugging away and I thought that's when Neil Wagner really stepped up for us and he bowled those, I guess those dead overs, he bowled them with hostility and when he's in your team you know that you've got those overs where you are still going to be able to create some opportunities and once he got that breakthrough, got Angelo (Mathews) out, then it was certainly relax the shoulders a little bit after that and we were able to push home some advantage from that."

"There are some plus points, even the way the bowlers batted, they fought really hard in both the innings, they just didn't give it away, but I am really disappointed the way the first innings went for us, because after winning the toss on a green wicket I expected a lot more from the bowlers and we bowled a lot of loose stuff, which to a batting line-up like New Zealand, you can't bowl a lot of loose stuff because they are obviously going to capitalise and I thought we lost our way in that first couple of sessions when we let them off the hook. And also we were way too cautious in our first innings batting."
