  • Dave Roberts said on Tuesday (1st December) that it was a "dream job" to become the new manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"You know, my wife and I talked numerous times about what would be your ideal job, and your best job and your dream job, essentially, and without question it's be to be the manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. And I think when I was in my first year coaching in the major leagues I realised that I loved being on the field, I've done the front office, and done some TV, and when I had the opportunity to get back in the dugout in a coaching capacity, I knew right then and there, at some point, if the opportunity presents itself, I'd love to manage. And I think when your thinking pie-in-the-sky, this is it. You know, I went to school here, I'm a southern California guy, and, with this franchise I'm a former Dodger, and I understand what it means to wear this uniform. And so, I think, speaking bluntly, this is my dream job."

"To step back and realise that it's much, much bigger than me, this situation, would be completely irresponsible of me. And I think that there's a lot of people that paved the way, to ultimately have me have this opportunity. And again, I'm really grateful to the ownership, to the guys to my side, to have that vision and to trust me in this chair. But again, it goes to the...not opportunity, it goes to the responsibility that I feel as the first minority manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers. And that isn't taken lightly, it's something I'm going to carry with me forever. As far as your question, Bill, why it hasn't happened earlier, I have no idea. I've just kind of done my deal, and been true to the game of baseball that I love, and I'm very, very fortunate that it's me."
